Digital Abstract Art Painting - From iPad to Printing

An abstract digital woodland painting created on the iPad Pro using Procreate, inspired by an unplanned morning walk through a local forest.

In this video, I take a photograph from the woods — tall tree silhouettes, a broken branch, shifting light — and use it purely as inspiration, not reference. The goal isn’t realism, but feeling: colour, contrast, mood, and movement. Layers of greens, blues, pinks, and peach tones are built up using Procreate’s oil brushes to create depth, texture, and a sense of atmosphere.

Abstract Digital Landscape Painting in Procreate - My Creative Process Revealed

See how I created a landscape painting that started as a outdoor adventure.

This is about feeling first, technique second.

In this short, I take a moment outside — bike ride, dog in tow, and a quiet Norfolk field — and turn that experience into a landscape painting, not by copying what I saw, but by capturing how it felt. Your best art doesn’t always come from the studio — sometimes it comes from being present, noticing light, mood, and memory.

🎨 I’m turning real inspiration from the outdoors
🖌 Into marks that speak to emotion, not perfection

A Abstract Landscape Painting Adventure - How I was inspired

This painting didn’t start in the studio. It started outside.

In this video, I head out into the Norfolk countryside on my electric bike with my dog Monty on my back, camera in hand, and a loose idea forming. No plan to copy a scene. No intention to paint detail for detail. Just the goal of feeling something and bringing that feeling back to the canvas.

I believe some of the strongest paintings don’t come from technique alone, but from experience. From being present. From getting outside, noticing the light, the space, the quiet — and letting that shape the work.

Back in the studio, I turn a single photograph of St Michael’s Church in Broom, Norfolk, into a contemporary, expressive painting. I focus on loose marks, broken detail, and composition that allows the viewer’s eye — and mind — to complete the image. Gold is added not for decoration, but to echo the way the light moved across the fields that evening.

This video isn’t a tutorial. It’s a reminder. A reminder that creativity lifts when we step outside.
That painting with emotion matters more than painting perfectly.
And that sometimes the journey itself is already part of the artwork.

The Ultimate Guide to Finishing and Preparing Art for Sale

Sometimes you’ve got to leave the studio to find real inspiration. In this video, I jump on my electric bike across the Norfolk countryside to chase new ideas and end up discovering a local water tower — the perfect subject for my next abstract acrylic painting.

Back in the studio, I turn that moment into art, experimenting with wet-on-wet blending, bold colour blocking, and DIY texture techniques using plastic sheeting and palette knives to create expressive marks and movement.

You’ll see how I build the composition, layer colour, and use everyday materials to create depth and texture — perfect if you’re exploring abstract painting ideas, acrylic art, or DIY creative techniques.

Plus, I share an exclusive look at FlowFrame, my upcoming AI art scene generator app that lets artists upload their work and instantly see it displayed in real-life environments with lighting, camera angles, and interior settings.
